“Urban Land Theories and Policies” course by Prof. Paul Rabè

First, we wish you a successful start on professional master programs for the academic year 2014-2015!

Please be informed that the courses will start this weekend  24th -26th of October 2014 with “Urban Land Theories and Policies” course by Prof. Paul Rabè with the following schedule:

Friday October 24th, 2014: 14.00-17.00
Saturday October 25th,  2014: 9.00-17.00
Sunday October 26th 2014: 9.00-17.00

During these lecturing days you will be notified for other details of your engagement with this course.
In the link below you can download the syllabus course and the readings that provides details on the subject, organization of the course, your responsibilities, as well as indications on readings.
The readings are organized in two groups, namely required and recommended readings. Your are kindly requested to read the required readings (read the syllabus )
before the class on Friday October 24th, 2014. This is extremely important to your understanding of participation in the theoretical discussion.

LIST OF DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT BEFORE THE THESIS DEFENCE




LIST OF DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT BEFORE THESIS DEFENCE   - PROFESSIONAL MASTER STUDENTS



a) Certificate from the secretariat that confirms the student has fulfilled all the academic required obligations except the diploma thesis.
b) Certificate from the finance office and from the library of POLIS University that confirms the student has no obligations towards POLIS.
c) Notarized declaration that declares that the student’s work is original and respects the copyrights and the international and POLIS regulations concerning intellectual property.
d) Two copies of the Diploma Thesis in hard copy with perfect binding (NOT spiral) and for the students who chose the Design based Thesis also a printed version of 5-10 panels in A1 format. The cover page of the textual document must be white and formatted as shown in the provided format (APPENDIX B – THESIS COVER PAGE).
e) One CD with the Thesis textual part in Pdf. format, (also a Pdf. Copy of the 5-10 panels A1 format for the Design based Thesis) and one A2 poster in electronic format with graphic content and key words that summarize the research idea and results of the project; the A2 panel will be published on the POLIS website in the section dedicated to POLIS Alumni.
f[i]) Certificate of English language proficiency in one of international test recognized form MASH (list of recognized tests follows). The minimum required level for the Professional Master programs is B2.
- Cambridge Esol – University of Cambridge Examinations
- IELTS – International English Language Testing System
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
- TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication
- Michigan -Test
- PTE general – Pearson Test of English General

g) Professional practice internship certificate to be filled in and signed



[i] This document is required after the thesis defense, when you are going to receive the diploma thesis signed by the university. Keep in mind that you need to submit it in advance, at list 2weeks before.

"THREE PAVILIONS EXPERIENCE AS ARCHITECTURE" forum lecture @U_POLIS





Dear all,
We are pleased to invite you on Friday 7 March, at 16:30 in the A3 Aula in the Open Forum lecture entitled "THREE PAVILIONS EXPERIENCE AS ARCHITECTURE" of the Architect, Prof. Alper Derinbogaz/ Istanbul Bilgi University also founding partner at Salon Architects.

Short Bio:
Alper Derinboğaz graduated from ITU and received the Fulbright Scholarship. He won the UCLA Graduate Award for his master’s studies in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of California, Los Angeles. He worked as a Senior Architect in Los Angeles and Istanbul, and won several prizes in national and international competitions. He has realized public space projects that are incorporating new technologies. He formed the initial stage of Salon in 2009 as an architecture practice.

NUFFIC CEREMONY - Friday 17th of January 2014 at 17.00 p.m



Dear Students

We would like to inform you that the courses you attended during the 1st semester of this academic year (2013-2014) were part of the NUFFIC Program, in collaboration with IHS-Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Co- Plan and POLIS University.

To celebrate the conclusion and the success of this project Polis University will organize a Ceremony to Deliver Certificates to all the student who attended the courses.

The ceremony will be held after the Master courses on Friday 17th of January  at  17.00 p.m - at POLIS - Auditorium C1, 3rd floor.

THESIS CRITICS 17-19 JANUARY 2014



 

Dear students of 2nd year Master,
We have received your proposals and most of you also have Supervisors assigned. If you have not been contacted by your Supervisor yet, please let me know.

As you know from the presentation I made in December and from the schedule I sent you, during the thesis process you are required to present the advancement of their thesis during all the presentations in the Colloquia/Critics scheduled during the year. The firs critics are scheduled for next weekend. During the critics you are required to present in front of a commission your Draft Research Proposal (Background, Problem statement, Research question/s, research Objectives, approach and techniques, Literature Review) in a Power point presentation. By now you should have received comments from your Supervisors so you will be able to update and develop your First (outline) Research Proposal before the critics.

Please choose one of the following dates and time frames:
Friday 17th of December (afternoon) 14:00 – 17:00
Saturday 18th of December (morning) 10:00 – 13:00 or (afternoon) 14:30 – 17:00
Sunday the 19th of December (morning) 10:00 – 13:00 or (afternoon) 14:30 – 17:00

And let us know when you will be coming to present at the critics, by writing an email to: Eralda Ribaj eralda_ribaj@universitetipolis.edu.al and Cc. Laura Pedata: laura_pedata@universitetipolis.edu.al

This colloquia is a requirement and it is important because you will receive comments from the commission before the next deadline (24th January 2014) when you will have to submit the Draft Research Proposal (Chapter 1 and Chapter 2: Background, Problem statement, Research question/s, research Objectives, approach and techniques, Literature Review + Planning and References) to your Supervisor (and Cc. me) via email.

For your information I am attaching the schedule of critics & submissions, the presentation I made in December and the Research proposal guidelines again.
